Natural gas, electric and steam power are abundant, affordable and dependable.

Electricity
The state's largest utilities are members of the Mid-Continent Area Power Pool (MAPP), an alliance that ensures the availability and delivery of reliable, low-cost energy to Minnesota businesses and residents. Minnesota law requires that utilities spend 1.5 percent of their annual gross electric revenue on programs that help customers save energy.

Natural Gas
Minnesota receives natural gas from three major gas-producing basins: the Southwest, Rocky Mountains and Canada. This central location ensures customers have a reliable, low-cost source of energy.

Municipal power utilities are locally regulated, with rates and service practices set by members of the community. Municipal utilities are operated in the public interest, focusing on long-term community benefit, not short-term gain.
