Premier Plastics

Premier Plastics fits the mold of a northland success story. Founded in Wyoming, Minn., in 1997 as a custom rotational molding and thermoforming plastics molding company specializing in pontoon boat components, the company relocated to Hoyt Lakes, Minn., in 2003, drawn by the available work force with top-tier manufacturing skills.
In northeastern Minnesota, Menne found what he was looking for: a new building that he could rent to own; an attractive financing package offered by Iron Range Resources, the City of Hoyt Lakes, Arrowhead Business Connection and others; and access to the stable and dedicated workforce he needed to take the business to the next level.
"For me, one of the biggest changes from doing business in the Cities is the availability of skilled workers, and their dedication," said Bob Menne, ownder of Premier Plastics. "Between the superior workforce, the ability to end up owning a building, and the financing programs, this move made complete sense for the business."
The company has thrived in its new surroundings, exceeding its employment projections and diversifying its product line. Today, the company uses its 35,000-square-foot facility in the Laskin Energy Park to its fullest. New equipment has increased rotational molding capacity by 125 percent, and vacuum forming by 200 percent, driven by demand from the marine, ATV and sporting goods sectors for boat consoles, cargo boxes and wheels for docks and boatlifts.
Iron Range Resources supported Premier Plastic's relocation to the Iron Range with two loans to the company, a loan to the city of Hoyt Lakes and an employee grant to the company.
