Residential Community Redevelopment

The Residential Community Redevelopment Program replaced the building demolition program that existed for many years.  The Residential Community Redevelopment Program is limited to removal of non commercial blight or slum structures, including houses and garages.  The goal of the program is to encourage new development to occur upon removal of the blight.

This program is staffed and operated by Iron Range Resources whom provide the employees and equipment required for the removal of residential structures.  Applications are accepted on a continuing basis and projects are geographically grouped together and scheduled for completion within our service area.  Typically, the program starts up in mid-May and works to the end of November razing approximately eighty structures during the season.

  • Communities and homeowners must cover the cost of tipping fees, permits, environmental inspection, hazardous material abatement, and property title or legal fees.
  • The property owner must complete the tasks listed in Section IV. (B) and submit the completed forms.  These completed forms are to be submitted to the community's local Building Demolition Coordinator.
  • For commercial structures, please visit the Commercial Community Redevelopment page for more information.
